It has sure been a long time coming, I know. But Devil’s Parody is well worth the wait. Set in the dark woods of Vermont, rich socipath, Sebastian Black, has assembled a group of six high-stakes gamblers for the ultimate game of chance. How far would you go for five million dollars? Nick and his ladylove, Chris, find themselves running for their lives in this super page-turner.
The same cast of colorful characters that you came to love in Nick’s debut, The Nine Irony, are back. Nick Thomas, mystery writer and street philosopher, his soul-mate, Chris, and of course his huge Jamaican guardian angel, Ray follow the trail of Skyler Todd, Chris’ uncle, to a secluded estate in the northern mountains where he and five others were lured and held captive.

On Thursday, Nov. 1, N.C. mystery writer Tom Rieber will speak at Sunset River Marketplace art gallery in Calabash, N.C. at the gallery’s final Coffee With the Authors event of the year. He will talk about his second book in the Nick Thomas mystery series, “Devil’s Parody,” which follows “The Nine Irony.” In the popular novel, six gamblers lured by a $5 million prize are trapped by their own greed and find themselves playing for their lives.
The Nick Thomas character is a struggling mystery writer whose noble intentions and errant judgment often lead him into precarious situations that take resource and imagination to survive. Nick is a Viet Nam veteran, recovering alcoholic, and self-proclaimed philosopher of life who lives and works in an old cottage on the beach. He wears blue jeans, drives a temperamental old MG and listens to the Rolling Stones. He is a man who has been given a second chance in life with a great woman by his side, good friends who are there when needed, and he’s doing what he loves to do. Sounds perfect, right? But, as always, life laughs while we make our contented way.
About himself, Rieber says, “I love the thrill when I get my teeth into a new story. I love fiction because you can be anything you want – a jewel thief, a fighter pilot, a murderer or even the President. I am a student of life. I love people and interacting with all types of social circles.”
The author, who now resides in Calabash, N.C., hails from East Hampton, Conn. Rieber’s presentation begins at 10 a.m. and runs through 11 a.m. Gourmet coffee, tea and breakfast treats will be served. The Coffee With the Author series at Sunset River Marketplace is free. Call the gallery at 910.575.5999
Sunset River Marketplace is located at 10283 Beach Drive SW, Calabash, N.C. Regular hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
North Carolina Mystery/Suspense writer, Tom Rieber with novelist Jacqueline DeGroot at the 2102 Oysterfest on Ocean Isle Beach. Thanks to all my loyal readers for coming out in support. The show was a huge success and we sold a ton of books! Its days like this that make the journey worthwhile.
Thank you and God Bless.
My association with Tom Rieber goes back to the first days of this intriguing new book. From the first time Tom shared the initial chapters with our writing group, I expected it would be an exceptional story; and that expectation has come true. The Nick Thomas Series is a winner; engaging characters, well structured plot with intriguing surprises as the stories progress. Tom’s ability to create action and interest in the story is remarkable right from word one. Mystery readers, especially those how enjoy crisp and concise prose, will enjoy this book. Tom’s writing is very reminiscent of Raymond Chandler and, with Nick Thomas, we have yet another fascinating character to follow through books yet to come. www.nickthomasmysteries.com/buy-books/

I was just sent this amazing article on how someone became a bestselling author on Amazon (say it softly and with reverence) about e-publishing their book and pricing it at .99 cents. At first glance I thought this was totally insane but the more I read, the more I was beginning to see the genius behind the madness.
